HRWMO works in the social, development, and humanitarian sectors, highlighting the vital importance of protecting human rights and promoting sustainable development in Afghanistan. The restrictions on women’s access to education, employment, and participation, along with ineffective justice institutions and ongoing humanitarian crises, pose a significant threat to the rights of Afghan citizens, especially women and children.
Legal empowerment and gender equality are central to HRWMO’s strategic priorities. The organization advocates for the rights and participation of women and girls, particularly focusing on the 1.4 million girls who are excluded from secondary education. Women and girls throughout the country face significant restrictions on their freedom of movement, along with an increased risk of gender-based violence, child labor, early marriage, and mental health issues.
Reports indicate that 87% of Afghan women and girls experience at least one form of gender-based violence (GBV), yet only 5% have access to support services. Moreover, over 60% of service providers have ceased operations. It is vital to prioritize the mental health, safety, and rights of these individuals. This requires the urgent restoration and expansion of GBV prevention and response services, along with comprehensive mental health support, to protect women and girls from violence and uphold their dignity and human rights.
HRWMO advocates for women’s rights; supports survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), and assists children in crisis. The organization collaborates with women’s groups, community leaders, and religious scholars to empower the most vulnerable individuals socially and economically. HRWMO helps women start home-based businesses and assists youth in establishing small industries to generate income and provide financial support to their families. These initiatives are particularly vital for women and youth facing humanitarian crises.
HRWMO is an organization dedicated to supporting media capacity in Afghanistan. We believe that media empowerment is crucial for advocating gender equality, reflecting the voices of marginalized communities, and mobilizing humanitarian assistance. However, this vital advocacy tool is currently facing significant technical and financial challenges.
HRWMO collaborates with donor organizations, community networks, and media partners to safeguard human rights, support Afghan media, and address humanitarian needs.
