HRWMO has received a multi-year project grant under the ‘Women Voice and Leadership’ initiative from the Asia Foundation. The project spans across Nangarhar, Kunar, and Laghman provinces. The primary goal of HRWMO is to address violence against women and girls and to improve their legal rights and access to justice.
The WVL Project aimed to strengthen women’s voice and leadership, advance the protection of women and girls’ rights, challenge harmful social beliefs and norms, and achieve gender equality through various offline and online interventions.
This was achieved through various activities such as screening documentaries, street theatres, civic advocacy sessions, awareness workshops, advocacy billboards, newsletter articles, project stakeholder meetings, and social media platforms.
The goal of these activities was to empower women, girls, youth, and community leaders by creating an activist network and raising awareness of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAW/G) through civic education sessions and provincial training workshops. A total of 2250 male and female participants took part in these workshops.
The HRWMO has produced a documentary focusing on women’s rights and gender equality. This documentary has been shown at civic education and training workshops, as well as community theaters. The HRWMO has organized seven community theater events, with a total of 6,000 women, girls, youth, and students in attendance.
These events have addressed important issues such as violence against women and girls, children’s rights, and health and education rights. In addition, the HRWMO has erected advocacy billboards in various districts and provinces. These billboards featured artwork aimed at raising awareness about women’s rights in the community, with the goal of educating people through impactful images depicting violence against women and girls.
HRWMO broadcasted radio panel discussions on women’s rights and EVAW as part of project components. The program invited honorable guests during the discussion to uncover the areas preventing women from actively participating in education and employment. Based on the feedback from calls, the program seems successful as it has positively altered citizens’ perceptions and mindsets. HRWMO accomplished the radio talk show on women’s fundamental and legal rights and access to justice through a local radio partner (Muram FM).
